8 Easy to Follow Steps to Make a Flowy T-Shirt Vest

Hi everyone! Today, we have a super simple and fun DIY project for you. Let me present, the flowy no-sew T-Shirt Vest! Dress up any outfit, business or casual, with a one-of-a-kind item you made yourself. It is our most simple DIY yet as you can make it with just a t-shirt and a pair of scissors! Let’s get started:

1 – Get your supplies – An oversized t-shirt of any kind and a sharp pair of fabric scissors. For this DIY, we chose to use a triblend t-shirt made with rayon because it will give the vest movement and flow.

2 – First, lay your t-shirt down flat and cut off the bottom hem of the t-shirt. Make sure to cut the seams completely off and not just down the center to create a smooth and seamless edge.

3 – Next, with your t-shirt still laid flat, cut off the sleeves at the seams. Again, make sure to cut the seams completely off and not just down the center. As you can see below, the sleeves and seams are completely off, leaving a raw edge.

4 – Then, cut off 2-3 inches around the collar. This is going to be where your body goes through the vest, so if you are not super confident in your cutting skills, start small with cuts then go bigger. Starting smaller and going up bigger with your cuts will keep the hole at a decent size and not too big and stretched out. Like the sleeves, you will end up with a smooth, seam free, edge.

5- After that, cut the side seams completely off as well. At this point, the t-shirt will no longer be attached at the sides.

6 – Once you’re finished cutting off both side seams, unfold the t-shirt flat down the middle and look for any rough edges around the hole you created. You can cut these edges off as a stylistic choice, or just leave them as the fabric will curl in and hide them.

7 – Finally, stick your arms and shoulders through the hole and straighten the vest out so it lays against your body properly.

8 – And there you have it! A simple and flowy, DIY T-Shirt Vest!
